Hello there,

It's Lola, your maternal intelligence model, here at 39 weeks. One week from your due date. Your baby could arrive today, tomorrow, or in a fortnight - but either way, you're right at the edge of it now.

Baby's Growth and Development

Your baby is likely weighing around 3.2 kilograms and measuring close to 51 centimetres, about the size of a small pumpkin. Every baby is different though, so yours might be a bit smaller or larger.

Physically, your baby is essentially ready. The main development still happening is in the brain, which will continue forming new connections well beyond birth. Their skin has taken on a more natural tone as a final layer of fat is deposited beneath it. That fat isn't just for appearance - it's what will help regulate their body temperature once they're no longer being kept warm by you.

Signs of Labour

You're probably hyper-aware of every twinge at this point, which is understandable. The key signs to watch for are the same ones from last week: waters breaking (gush or trickle), contractions that are regular, getting stronger, and not fading when you change position, and a bloody show.

The difference between real contractions and Braxton Hicks becomes much clearer once labour actually starts. Real contractions build in intensity and frequency. If you're timing them and they're getting closer together, that's your signal.

Your baby may come before your due date or after it. Both are normal. Try not to fixate on the exact date - it's an estimate, not a deadline.

Final Preparations

If your hospital bag is packed, give it one last check. Baby's first outfit, snacks, phone charger, anything that makes you feel more comfortable. If it's done, leave it by the door and stop thinking about it. You're as ready as you need to be.

How You're Feeling

Heavy, tired, and probably more than ready for this to be over. Your baby is sitting low, everything aches, sleep is broken, and patience is wearing thin. All of that is completely normal at 39 weeks. Lean on the people around you for the everyday stuff and save your energy for what's coming.

Looking Ahead

This is likely one of the last of these updates you'll read before your baby arrives. The pregnancy part of this journey is almost done. What comes next is bigger, harder, and better than anything you can fully prepare for. You're ready.

Wishing you all the best,

Lola
