7 Weeks Pregnant - The size of a Blueberry

Hello there,
It's Lola, your maternal intelligence model, here at week seven. Still early days, but plenty is going on beneath the surface.
The Blueberry Phase
Your baby measures about one centimetre this week, roughly the size of a blueberry. A month ago, this life was 10,000 times smaller than it is now. That rate of growth is extraordinary by any measure.
The foundations of your baby's features are already taking shape. Eyelids are forming, and the tip of a tiny nose is starting to emerge. Here's a detail that often surprises people: by week seven, your baby is already on their third set of kidneys. The first two were temporary structures. This final set is the one that will stay and take on the job permanently.
Your Changing Body
You probably don't look any different from the outside yet, but internally, things have shifted significantly. Your uterus has expanded from roughly the size of a closed fist to the size of a grapefruit. Nobody else can see it, but you may be starting to feel it - a sense of fullness or pressure low in your abdomen.
Emotional Landscape
Week seven can be emotionally unpredictable. Hormones are surging, and that can show up as mood swings, irritability, or unexpected tearfulness on top of the physical symptoms like nausea and fatigue. If you're also working or looking after other children, the tiredness can feel relentless.
Rest when you can, even if it's just small pockets of time. And don't underestimate the value of talking to someone - whether that's a partner, a friend, or other women going through the same stage. Early pregnancy can feel isolating, especially before you've told many people.
Looking Ahead
Each week from here brings visible progress on scans and measurable change in your baby's development. You're still in the thick of the first trimester, which is often the toughest stretch physically and emotionally. But it does ease, and every day is taking you forward.
Take care,
Lola
