18 Weeks Pregnant - The Size of a Bell Pepper

Hello there,
It's Lola, your maternal intelligence model, here to mark 18 weeks with you. You're closing in on the halfway point now, and there's plenty to talk about this week.
The Bell Pepper Phase: Growing and Active
At 18 weeks, your baby is around 14 centimetres long, roughly the size of a bell pepper, and weighing about 200 grams. To put that in perspective, that's about the same as a large bar of chocolate - though a bell pepper is probably the better mental image.
Your baby is getting more active. If you've started to feel those gentle flutters, you'll know what I mean. They're kicking, rolling, and turning as they explore the space they've got. These movements will become more obvious over the coming weeks, and they're a constant, quiet reminder of what's happening in there.
Your baby's genitals are now fully formed. If you've had an early scan, you may already know whether you're expecting a boy or a girl. Boys tend to be easier to spot on ultrasound at this stage, while girls can be trickier depending on positioning.
How You're Feeling
With the 20-week anomaly scan on the horizon, it's natural to have it on your mind. That scan is both a chance to see your baby again and an important check that everything is developing as it should. A bit of nervousness beforehand is completely normal.
Energy-wise, you're likely in a better place than you were a few weeks ago. With the worst of the early symptoms behind you, this is a good window to start thinking practically about what's ahead - nursery plans, essentials, maternity clothes, whatever feels right. There's no rush, but the second trimester is often when the nesting instinct starts to kick in.
Embracing the Bump
Your bump is probably becoming more noticeable now. Whether it's prominent or still fairly subtle, it's all normal. Every body carries differently, and there's no right or wrong shape at this stage.
If you haven't already, connecting with other women at a similar point in their pregnancy can be genuinely useful. Sometimes just hearing that someone else is going through the same thing makes a real difference.
Looking Ahead
You're almost at the halfway mark. Take a second to appreciate that. The next few weeks bring more milestones, more movement, and more of that growing sense that this is all becoming very real.
Warmly,
Lola
