34 Weeks Pregnant - The Size of a Cantaloupe Melon.

Hello there,
It's Lola, your maternal intelligence model, here at 34 weeks. Six weeks to go, and your baby is making some important final preparations.
Baby's Growth and Development
Your baby now weighs around 2 kilograms and measures about 45 centimetres, roughly the size of a cantaloupe. If your body is feeling the strain more than it used to, that's because it genuinely is carrying more weight with each passing week.
One of the key developments this week is that your baby is building their own immune system. Antibodies are passing from you to your baby, giving them a head start at fighting off infection once they're born. This transfer of immunity is one of the quieter but more significant things happening right now - your baby is being equipped for the outside world before they've even arrived in it.
Understanding Labour
At 34 weeks, it's worth thinking seriously about how labour might go. Vaginal delivery is the most common route, but sometimes a caesarean is the safest option - whether that's because of your baby's position, their size, or other factors. Talk to your midwife about the possibilities so you feel informed rather than caught off guard.
Birth plans rarely unfold exactly as written, and that's fine. The aim is always a safe delivery. If you're feeling anxious about it, hearing other women's birth experiences can help put things in perspective. Not to set expectations, but to remind yourself that there are many ways this can go well.
How You're Feeling
Tiredness is probably a constant companion at this point. You might also be feeling that mix of anticipation and anxiety that comes with knowing the end is close but not knowing exactly how it will play out. That's normal and shared by nearly every woman at this stage.
If you're approaching maternity leave, use that transition to genuinely slow down. Stay hydrated, rest when your body tells you to, and don't feel you need to be productive every moment. These final weeks are about conserving energy for what's ahead.
Looking Ahead
You're in the final stretch. Your body has done extraordinary work to get to this point and it's still going. Take each day as it comes, lean on the people around you, and trust that you and your baby are nearly there.
