9 Weeks Pregnant - The Size of an Olive

Hello there,
It's Lola, your maternal intelligence model, here at week nine. You're almost into double digits now, and development is moving fast.
The Olive-Sized Wonder
Your baby is about the size of an olive this week. The transformation over the past few weeks has been significant - the embryonic tail has disappeared, and the foundational structures of the eyes have formed. They're starting to look much more recognisably human, even at this tiny scale.
The heartbeat, which started a few weeks ago, is now well established. If you have a scan or Doppler appointment coming up, you may get to hear it for the first time. That tends to be a moment that stays with people.
Your Experience at Nine Weeks
The first trimester is often the toughest stretch physically, and week nine is usually right in the thick of it. Nausea, fatigue, and a general feeling of being run down are common. Some women sail through this part relatively easily, others find it genuinely difficult to get through the day. There's no right way to experience it.
You might be noticing early changes in your body - a slight rounding, some bloating, clothes fitting differently. These are subtle shifts, but they're signs of real progress. Your body is doing a lot of work right now, even if most of it is invisible to the outside world.
Emotionally, the first trimester can feel isolating, especially if you haven't shared the news widely yet. If you're finding it hard, talk to someone you trust. You don't have to carry it all quietly.
Looking Ahead
Your first scan is getting closer, and with it comes a moment where everything becomes more tangible. Until then, take it one day at a time. Rest when your body asks for it, eat what you can manage, and don't put pressure on yourself to feel any particular way about any of it.
All the best,
Lola
